The Finnish Line (1): Spidey in Helsinki

It's our last week here in Finland and we're spending it in the capital, Helsinki. I'm currently at one of the libraries of the University of Helsinki where the internet access is free and fast. My camera is still sick but good thing one of my Pinoy classmates is taking lots of photos with me in it. So I'll probably post more of my face and less buildings... Soon.

(Warning: Homesickness is REEEEEEALLY setting in by this time. Don't read further if you're in an emotional muck yourself. You have been warned)

In pursuit to save the world, so to speak, I always feel that my family incurs collateral damage. I can very well earn more in some other local jobs or in some other countries even, to provide for their needs, to care for them as much as they have for me, so they can retire at an age young enough for them to enjoy the fruits of my proverbial labor. But no, I still stick it out in the Philippines, in our University which hasn't paid me in three months. Which translates to me collecting allowance from them still...

Sometimes I just want to work in a call center, an 8-5 or 10-6 or 6-2 job, earn more than enough, and lead a better quality of life to the point that when I'm home from work, I am REALLY home and not fussing over a lecture or presentation or paperwork...

Sometimes, it feels like the world doesn't want/need/deserve saving. What good is it to educate village health workers when you can't take care of your own parents health-wise? Or that they have to work probably till forever since their son wants to save the world but can't save his own family. It just doesn't feel fair.

And the sick-er part is: nobody told me to save the proverbial world! And yet I'm still at it. Hayayayay...

Once in a while, the one who thinks he HAS to save the world needs saving. Thank God He sends it at the most blessed of times...

If I can see farther, it is because I have stood on the shoulder of giants, said Isaac Newton. Ditto, I say.

I love you both, immensely.
